Pentair IntelliCenter Load Center Wiring
After the IntelliCenter load center is physically installed and wired, the system must be configured in software. This configuration is done entirely through the touchscreen interface under Settings > Advanced System Configuration > Installation Setup. This article covers the software setup process: Body Configuration, Panel Identification, Expansion Enclosures, and the Installation Setup menu structure.
System Capacity and Model Overview
IntelliCenter is a scalable system. The number of circuits available depends on the Personality Card installed and the number of Expansion Enclosures connected. Key system capacities:
| Capability | Capacity |
|---|---|
| AUX Circuits (with 3 expansion enclosures) | Up to 39 |
| Feature Circuits | Up to 32 |
| IntelliFlo Pumps | Up to 16 |
| Programmable Schedules | Up to 100 |
| Groups (lights and AUX circuits) | Up to 16 |
| Bodies of Water | Up to 2 |
| Expansion Enclosures | Up to 3 (connected via RS-485 to master panel) |
The Personality Card installed in the load center determines the model type. The system configuration type (Single Body, Shared Equipment, or Dual Equipment) must match the physical installation.
Pool/Spa System Configuration Types
The IntelliCenter supports three pool/spa system configurations depending on the Personality Card installed:
| Configuration | Model Numbers | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Single Body | i5, i8, i10 | One set of equipment for a single body of water (pool or spa) |
| Shared Equipment | i5PS, i8PS, i10PS | Pool and spa combination sharing the same pump, heater, and filter |
| Dual Equipment | i10D | Two separate equipment sets for two separate bodies of water |
To configure the pool and spa system type, go to Settings > Advanced System Configuration > Installation Setup > Body Configuration.
Accessing Installation Setup
All system configuration is accessed from the Home screen:
- From the Home screen, tap Settings.
- Tap Advanced System Configuration.
- Tap Installation Setup.
The Installation Setup screen presents the following configuration sections:
| Section | Description |
|---|---|
| Body Configuration | Configure the master panel, expansion enclosures, and bodies of water (pool/spa) |
| Circuits | Set up AUX circuits and Feature circuits |
| Pumps | Set up IntelliFlo and other pump circuits |
| Heaters | Set up heater circuits and heat sources |
| Valves | Set up valve actuator circuits |
| Chemistry | Enable IntelliChem or IntelliChlor devices |
| Pool Cover | Set up pool cover circuit settings |
Body Configuration
Body Configuration is where you configure the IntelliCenter Personality Cards, expansion enclosures, and the bodies of water (pool and spa) assigned to each panel.
The Body Configuration screen displays:
- Master Panel (OCP0): The main control board.
- Pool (Body 0): The first body of water assigned to the master panel.
- Spa (Body 1): The second body of water (for shared or dual equipment systems).
- Expansion 1, 2, 3: Up to three expansion enclosures (XCP0, XCP1, XCP2), shown as disabled until connected and enabled.
Configuring a Body of Water
Tap on Pool (Body 0) or Spa (Body 1) to access body settings:
- Body Type: Reassign as Pool or Spa.
- Body Name: Enter a custom name for the body of water.
- Body Capacity: Enter the volume from 1,000 to 150,000 gallons (pool) or 1,000 to 40,000 gallons (spa).
Panel Identification
Each panel (master and expansion) has a Panel Identification screen where you can set the panel name and panel assignment.
Master Panel (OCP0)
Tap Master Panel in the Body Configuration screen to access Panel Identification:
- Panel Name: Enter the name for the main master panel. Tap the checkmark to save.
- Panel Assignment: Reassign circuits to a different panel. A warning confirms the circuit assignments will be switched.
- Show Identifier in Other Panels: Select other installed panels to display on other panel screens.
Expansion Enclosures
Up to three expansion enclosures can be connected to the master panel via RS-485 to increase the number of AUX circuits (up to 39 total with all three expansions). Expansion enclosures appear in the Body Configuration screen as Expansion 1, 2, and 3.
Enabling an Expansion Enclosure
To enable an expansion enclosure:
- Go to Settings > Advanced System Configuration > Installation Setup > Body Configuration.
- Tap the expansion enclosure (e.g., Expansion 1).
- Tap Panel Identification.
- Tap Panel Assignment and enable the expansion panel. Tap the checkmark to save.
If an optional i10x Daughter Card is installed in the expansion enclosure (adding 10 relays), tap the Expansion Panel Daughter Card button to enable it.
Using the Setup Wizard
For new installations, the Setup Wizard provides a step-by-step configuration assistant. Access it from Settings > Advanced System Configuration > Wizard. The wizard guides you through:
- Body Configuration (system type, pool/spa setup)
- Circuit assignment
- Pump configuration
- Heater setup
After completing the wizard, you can use the individual Installation Setup menus to make further adjustments.
Importing and Exporting System Configuration
IntelliCenter can save and restore its full system configuration via USB. This is useful for backing up settings before a major change, or restoring a system after a board replacement. Access these options at Settings > Advanced System Configuration > Import/Export:
- Import System Configuration: Restore a previously saved configuration from a USB device.
- Export System Configuration: Save the current configuration to a USB device.
- Export Status Logs: Save system status logs to a USB device for diagnostics.
Restoring Factory Defaults
To reset the IntelliCenter to its factory default configuration, go to Settings > Advanced System Configuration > Restore Factory Defaults. Follow the screen prompts to confirm. This will overwrite all current system configuration with the default factory settings and cannot be undone unless a configuration export was saved beforehand.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I add an expansion enclosure to an existing system?
Connect the expansion enclosure to the master panel via RS-485, then enable it from Settings > Advanced System Configuration > Installation Setup > Body Configuration. Tap the expansion entry, access Panel Identification, and enable the panel via Panel Assignment.
What is the difference between Body 0 and Body 1?
Body 0 is the first body of water assigned to the master panel — typically the pool. Body 1 is the second body — typically the spa. Each body can be individually named, assigned a type (Pool or Spa), and have its capacity set. For single-body systems, only Body 0 is used.
How many AUX circuits does the IntelliCenter support?
The IntelliCenter supports up to 39 AUX circuits when three expansion enclosures are connected to the master panel. The base number of circuits depends on the Personality Card installed. Up to 32 Feature Circuits can also be configured independently of the AUX circuit count.
Can I back up my IntelliCenter configuration?
Yes. Insert a USB device into the IntelliCenter outdoor control panel, indoor control panel, or wireless remote and go to Settings > Advanced System Configuration > Import/Export > Export System Configuration to save a backup.
