Pentair IntelliCenter Schedule Programming

Schedules are the backbone of an automated IntelliCenter system. A well-programmed schedule keeps the filter running during optimal hours, heats the spa before a homeowner arrives, and turns lights on at dusk without any manual interaction. The IntelliCenter supports up to 100 programmable schedules and two schedule types: Weekly and One Time Only.

Accessing the Schedule Screen

All schedule management is performed from the Schedule screen. From the Home screen, tap the Schedule icon. The Schedule screen displays all existing programs along with their start and stop times and days. From this screen you can add, edit, enable, disable, and delete schedules.

To add a new schedule, tap the + Add Program button. You will be prompted to select a schedule type: Weekly or One Time Only.

Schedule Types

Type How It Works Best For
Weekly Runs each week on the days you specify. Can be set to run Everyday, Weekdays, Weekends, or specific days of the week. Filter pump, heater, lights on a recurring routine
One Time Only Runs once on a single specified day. Automatically erased after the scheduled time is completed. Pre-heating the spa for a specific event, one-off equipment runs

Adding a Weekly Schedule

A Weekly schedule runs each week on the days you specify. Circuits can be scheduled to turn on and off everyday, on weekdays, on weekends, or on any specific day of the week. Each 24-hour period can have multiple on/off times.

  1. From the Home screen, tap Schedule > + Add Program > Weekly.
  2. Select the AUX circuit, Feature circuit, or Group to control.
  3. Tap Everyday to set which days to run (Everyday, Weekdays, Weekends, or specific days). Tap the checkmark to save.
  4. Set the Start Time: choose Manual, Sunrise, or Sunset.
  5. Set the Stop Time: choose Manual, Sunrise, or Sunset.
  6. If controlling the Pool or Spa body, set the Heat Source and Set Temperature (optional).

Adding a One Time Only Schedule

A One Time Only schedule runs the selected circuit on a single specified day, then is automatically erased from the schedule list when completed. This is useful for pre-heating the spa before a specific arrival time or running a circuit on a one-off basis.

  1. From the Home screen, tap Schedule > + Add Program > One Time Only.
  2. Select the AUX circuit, Feature circuit, or Group to control.
  3. Set the date, start time, and stop time.
  4. If controlling the Pool or Spa body, set the Heat Source and Set Temperature as needed.

Note: One Time Only Auto-Erase

After a One Time Only schedule completes, it is automatically removed from the schedule list. If the equipment is already running on a regular schedule and is off, the One Time Only timer will switch it on for the scheduled time.

Scheduling Heat Setpoints

When a schedule controls the Pool or Spa circuit, you can also schedule the heat source and target temperature for that period. Heat Source and Set Temperature options only appear for Pool and Spa circuits.

Heat Source Options

Heat Source Description
Don't Change Uses whatever heat source is selected from the Pool or Spa screen every time the schedule is active. Use this option for recurring schedules where the operator may manually change heat sources.
OFF Disables the heater during the scheduled period
Heater Uses the gas or electric heater
Solar Only Uses solar heating only
Solar Preferred Uses solar when available, falls back to heater
Heat Pump Only Uses the heat pump only
Heat Pump Preferred Uses heat pump when available, falls back to heater
Hybrid Uses a combination of heat sources

Set Temperature: Tap the + or − button to set the target temperature from 40°F to 104°F. This option is not displayed when Heat Source is set to Don't Change.

Setting Start and Stop Times

Each schedule supports three modes for its start and stop times:

  • Manual: A fixed time (AM/PM) that you enter directly.
  • Sunrise: Triggered relative to the calculated local sunrise time.
  • Sunset: Triggered relative to the calculated local sunset time.

The duration between the start and stop time is automatically calculated and displayed. A 24-hour duration is shown when start and stop times are set to the same time (e.g., 8 AM to 8 AM).

Offsetting Sunrise and Sunset Times

When you select Sunrise or Sunset as a start or stop time, you can apply a time offset. The offset adjusts the actual trigger time Before or After the calculated sunrise or sunset. The Sunrise and Sunset Offset time can be adjusted up to a maximum of 6 hours.

Sunrise and sunset times are derived from the system's configured location (zip code and time zone) under Settings > General > Location > Date & Time. The onboard clock can be set manually or synchronized from an internet time server.

Example: To start a spa heating schedule 2 hours before sunset, select Sunset as the start time and set a 2-hour Before offset. The system will start the circuit at the calculated sunset time minus 2 hours, adjusting automatically throughout the year as sunset shifts.

Deleting a Schedule

To delete a schedule, tap the Trash Can icon on the Schedule screen. Select the schedule(s) to delete from the list, then tap the checkmark and confirm Yes. Deleted schedules cannot be recovered.

Manual Operation Priority

The Manual Operation Priority setting (found under Settings > General) controls what happens when a circuit is manually switched on or off while a schedule is running.

  • Manual OP Priority ON: A circuit can be manually switched off and then back on within a scheduled program. It will continue to run for a maximum of 12 hours — or until the circuit's Egg Timer expires — after which the scheduled program resumes if the schedule has not yet ended. This setting also allows manual pump override of any scheduled program.
  • Default: OFF.

The Egg Timer duration for each circuit is configured under Settings > Advanced System Configuration > Installation Setup > Circuits.

Vacation Mode

Vacation Mode lets you set up a temporary daily schedule to run while away, with a defined start and stop date. When you return, the system automatically reverts to the standard schedules.

To set up Vacation Mode:

  1. Access Vacation Mode from the Home screen (or via Settings).
  2. Turn Vacation Mode ON.
  3. Set the Duration (ON) and enter a Start Date and Stop Date.
  4. Tap + Add Program to create a Weekly or One Time Only schedule for the vacation period.

While in Vacation Mode, the Schedule icon on the Home screen is replaced by a Vacation icon. Previous vacation schedules remain in memory and can be re-enabled for future trips.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many schedules can IntelliCenter store?

IntelliCenter supports up to 100 programmable schedules across all circuits. The Schedule screen displays the number of schedule slots remaining (e.g., "Schedules — 94 free").

What circuits can be scheduled?

Any AUX (auxiliary) circuit, Feature circuit, or Group defined in the Circuits screen can be added to a schedule. To assign circuits, go to Settings > Advanced System Configuration > Installation Setup > Circuits and Feature Circuits.

Can I schedule a variable speed pump at a specific speed?

The schedule controls whether the circuit is on or off. The speed used by an IntelliFlo pump during a scheduled period is determined by the speed assignment configured for that circuit in the pump settings. Update the circuit's speed assignment to change the speed used during scheduled operation.

What happens to a One Time Only schedule if the equipment is already running?

If the heater and pump are already on a schedule and the equipment is currently off, the One Time Only timer will switch the equipment on for the scheduled time. After the One Time Only program completes, it is automatically erased from the schedule list.
