ScreenLogic2 Protocol Adapter Installation and Setup
The ScreenLogic2 Protocol Adapter connects Pentair IntelliTouch and EasyTouch pool automation systems to your home network, enabling control from any smartphone, tablet, Apple Watch, or PC. Proper installation of the Protocol Adapter and correct configuration of the ScreenLogic2 app are essential for reliable operation.
This guide covers Protocol Adapter location, wiring to the Load Center, startup verification, and remote access setup, based on the official Pentair ScreenLogic2 Installation and User's Guide.
Before You Begin
The ScreenLogic2 Interface (Wireless Bundle P/N 523434) adds smartphone and PC control to Pentair IntelliTouch® and EasyTouch® control systems. The Protocol Adapter connects to your home network router via Ethernet and to the Load Center via a 4-wire cable. The IntelliTouch or EasyTouch Load Center must already be installed before adding ScreenLogic2.
Tools required: Wire stripping tool, Ethernet connector tool (if running custom Ethernet cable).
Cable Distance Limits
| Cable Type | Maximum Length |
|---|---|
| Ethernet (CAT5) — router to Protocol Adapter | 300 feet |
| 4-wire cable — Protocol Adapter to Load Center COM port | 1,500 feet |
Protocol Adapter Location
Place the Protocol Adapter inside the home, in a dry area near the homeowner's DSL or Cable modem. The wireless router should be on the first floor for best coverage — preferably in the room nearest to the pool area or where the phone or tablet will be primarily used.
Keep the router at least 3–6 feet from electrical devices that generate RF noise (microwaves, monitors, electric motors, UPS units). Note that 2.4 GHz cordless phones and X-10 home automation devices can cause wireless interference.
Multiple wireless controllers: If the system also uses a MobileTouch or iS4 QuickTouch wireless controller, keep the Transceiver antennas for each controller at least 6 feet apart to avoid digital interference.
Wiring the Protocol Adapter to the Load Center
Wire Color Codes (Both Ends Must Match)
| Terminal Pin | Wire Color | Function |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | BLK (Black) | Ground |
| 2 | GRN (Green) | −DT (data negative) |
| 3 | YEL (Yellow) | +DT (data positive) |
| 4 | RED (Red) | +15 VDC |
Load Center COM Port Connections
- IntelliTouch: Connect to COM port J7 or J8 on the Personality board (left side of board). Multiple wires may be inserted into a single screw terminal.
- EasyTouch: Connect to COM port J20 on the EasyTouch circuit board (top of board).
Tapping into an Existing Indoor Control Panel Cable
If an Indoor Control Panel is already installed, the Protocol Adapter can tap directly into the existing 4-wire cable or pigtail off the Indoor Control Panel connector. This avoids running a separate cable from the Load Center.
Startup Verification
- Switch on main power to the Load Center — the Protocol Adapter's red Power LED should illuminate (it receives power from the COM port)
- Connect AC power to the wireless router — verify Power LED is on and LAN port LEDs illuminate for active connections
- Connect the Protocol Adapter to the router via straight-through CAT5 cable (a crossover cable will not work)
IP Address and Synchronization
The Protocol Adapter uses DHCP by default — the router automatically assigns it an IP address. A static IP can be set using the "Configure IP Info" button in the ScreenLogic Connect software if needed.
On startup, the Protocol Adapter queries the automation system configuration and continues to query every 30 minutes. To force an immediate sync after making changes at the Load Center, cycle power to the Protocol Adapter.
Configuring the ScreenLogic2 App (Steps 1–5)
After hardware installation, use the Configurator utility (in the ScreenLogic Connect software or app) to configure the system. Follow Steps 1–5:
- General Settings: Set clock, location (ZIP code for weather), temperature scale (°F/°C), and calibrate sensors. Set a remote access password if needed.
- Setup Circuits: Assign circuit names and functions to each AUX relay. Enable freeze protection for pool and spa circuits (activates at 36°F).
- Configure Other Equipment: Configure valve actuators.
- Configure IntelliFlo: Set up IntelliFlo VF or VS pump circuits and GPM/RPM settings.
- Configure 10-Button Spa-Side Remote: Set up iS10/SpaCommand circuit assignments.
On Windows Vista through Windows 10, run the ScreenLogic2 program as Administrator the first time. Download ScreenLogic software for PC or Mac from pentairpool.com.
Connecting Remotely
To control the system over the Internet, use the ScreenLogic Connect application:
- Open ScreenLogic Connect and enter the system name in the format: Pentair: xx-xx-xx (last 6 digits of the Protocol Adapter serial number)
- Enter the password set during General Settings configuration (leave blank if no password was set)
- Click "Remember Login Info" to save credentials for future sessions
- Click "Start ScreenLogic" to connect
