IntelliBrite 5G Fixture and Component Replacement
The Pentair IntelliBrite 5G pool light has a replaceable circuit board assembly. The spa light version is a sealed unit — only the lens, gasket, and face ring can be replaced. All service must be done on the deck with power disconnected at the circuit breaker.
This guide covers pool light circuit board replacement, fuse harness replacement (12V models), gasket and lens installation, spa light gasket/lens service, and all replacement part numbers, based on the official Pentair IntelliBrite 5G Installation and User's Guide.
Before Servicing Any Light
All IntelliBrite 5G pool and spa light service must be performed by a licensed or certified electrician or a qualified pool professional in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and all applicable local codes.
Pool Light vs. Spa Light: Key Difference
The IntelliBrite 5G pool light has a replaceable circuit board assembly. The IntelliBrite 5G spa light is a sealed assembly — the circuit board is not replaceable. For the spa light, only the lens, gasket, and face ring can be removed and replaced.
Replacing the Pool Light Assembly (in an Existing Pool)
When replacing the pool light circuit board, always replace the lens gasket and Uni-Tension Wire Clamp at the same time — these are one-time-use sealing components that must be replaced each time the light is disassembled.
Parts required before starting:
- New lens gasket: P/N 620400Z
- Face ring assembly kit (stainless steel face ring + Uni-Tension Wire Clamp + gasket): P/N 600095
- New circuit board assembly (see part numbers below)
- Switch off the main circuit breaker and the light switch
- Remove the bronze or stainless steel pilot screw from the top of the face ring
- Pull the light assembly out of the niche and place it on the deck (it is not necessary to drain the pool)
- Unwind the cord from the base of the housing
- Place a cloth on the ground, turn the light over so the lens rests on the cloth
- Remove the nut from the Uni-Tension Wire Clamp using a 1/4 in nut driver and #3 Phillips screwdriver
- Remove the face ring and wire clamp from the housing — discard the wire clamp
- Pry off the gasket to release the lens — discard the gasket
Replacing the Fuse Harness (12 V Lights Only)
Some 12 VAC IntelliBrite pool lights have a replaceable fuse harness assembly. If the light does not illuminate, check the fuse before replacing the circuit board:
- With the lens and face ring removed, carefully disconnect each fuse connector plug from the circuit board terminals — use small side-to-side movements while stabilizing the terminals with a flat screwdriver. Do not pull the terminals off the board surface.
- Press down on the fuse release lever and gently pull the fuse assembly apart from the wire harness
- Insert the new fuse harness connector into the light cable harness plug and snap together
- Carefully reconnect each fuse connector plug to the circuit board terminals — do not press too hard as this can damage the terminal connections
Note: Replacing the fuse may not fully resolve the issue. If the light still does not work after fuse replacement, the circuit board must be replaced.
Removing and Installing the Circuit Board
- Using a 1/4 in nut driver, remove the four retainer nuts from the light assembly and set aside
- Unplug the two connector plugs from the circuit board
- Lift out the old circuit board and discard the old thermal strips from the housing base
- Place the two new thermal strips (included with the replacement kit) over the circuit board studs in the base
- Place the new circuit board over the base studs, on top of the thermal strips — ensure no wires are caught between the housing and circuit board edge
- Tighten the four retaining nuts to 6.0–8.0 in-lbs. Do not overtighten. All four nuts must be installed — they provide essential electrical ground.
Reinstalling with New Gasket and Uni-Tension Wire Clamp
- Stretch the new gasket around the circumference of the lens — the flat edge goes toward the face ring, the black embedded O-ring must be between lens and housing. "TOP" is embossed on the flat edge side.
- Place the lens/gasket assembly on top of the housing. Rotate to align the "W" (wide) marking on the lens with the brass nut in the housing.
- Place the face ring on top, rotating so the pilot screw hole is at 12 o'clock. Verify the "TOP" label on the rear of the housing aligns with the pilot screw on the face ring.
- Install the new Uni-Tension Wire Clamp: hook ends pointing down, spread the clamp and seat it in the "U" recesses of the locking levers. Ensure the wire clamp engages all lock levers.
- Turn the light over onto the cloth. Position the bolt connection at 45° from the pilot screw. Tighten the bolt and nut until the gap between clamp ends is 3/16 in (4.8 mm) or less.
- Coil at least 4 ft (1.22 m) of cord around the light fixture — this slack allows the light to be pulled out for deck service after the pool is filled.
- Reconnect the three light wires at the junction box: black to power, white to common, green to ground.
- Insert the face ring tab into the niche slot, then tighten the pilot screw to secure.
Wide and Narrow Angle Lens
The IntelliBrite 5G pool light lens can be set to wide (W) or narrow (N) angle beam. The factory default is WIDE.
| Setting | Use Case |
|---|---|
| WIDE (W) — factory default | Lights on the sides of the pool — wider coverage and light reflection across the pool width |
| NARROW (N) | Lights at the ends of the pool — increased intensity and distance |
To change angle: during reassembly, rotate the lens/gasket to align either "W" or "N" with the brass nut in the housing and the pilot screw hole on the face ring.
Replacing the Spa Light (Gasket, Lens, and Face Ring)
The IntelliBrite 5G spa light is a sealed assembly. The circuit board cannot be replaced. Only the lens, gasket, and face ring are serviceable. If the spa light's circuit board fails, the entire spa light assembly must be replaced.
Always replace the spa gasket (P/N 79108600) and a new Uni-Tension Wire Clamp each time the spa light is disassembled.
- Disconnect power at the circuit breaker and light switch
- Remove the pilot screw and pull the spa light assembly from the niche to the deck
- Loosen the clamp screw with a #3 Phillips screwdriver and remove the Uni-Tension Wire Clamp — discard it
- Remove the face ring from the housing
- Pry off the gasket to release the lens — discard the gasket, keep the lens
- Install the new gasket onto the lens, place on top of the housing
- Install the face ring: rotate so the "TOP" label aligns with the pilot screw hole at 12 o'clock, and the "O" in "TOP" on the lens aligns with the pilot screw hole
- Install new Uni-Tension Wire Clamp with hook ends down, seated in the "U" locking lever recesses
- Turn light over onto cloth, position bolt and clamp at 90° from pilot screw, tighten until gap is 1/4 in (6.4 mm) or less
- Reinstall into niche and tighten pilot screw
