Pentair IntelliFlo VSF Internal Error Alarm

The internal error alarm on the Pentair IntelliFlo VSF indicates the self-monitoring motor control software has encountered an error. This is an alarm condition — the red alarm light illuminates and all control panel buttons are disabled until the alarm is cleared.

How the Alarm Works

The internal error alarm indicates that the self-monitoring motor control software has encountered an error. Unlike mechanical or electrical fault alarms, this alarm originates within the drive's firmware and does not correspond to a specific external condition like voltage or temperature.

What to Do

Step 1: Clear the Alarm and Restart

Press the Reset button on the control panel to clear the alarm. After clearing, restart the pump by pressing Start/Stop. In many cases, the alarm will not recur and the pump will run normally.

Step 2: Check the Alarm Log

The pump's menu includes an Alarm Log that stores the last 10 alarms. To access it, press Menu, navigate to Settings, and scroll to Alarm Log. Reviewing the alarm log can help identify whether the internal error is recurring or was a one-time event.

Step 3: Contact Pentair Technical Service

If the internal error alarm persists after clearing and restarting, contact Pentair Technical Service at 1-800-831-7133 (available 8 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Eastern/Pacific Times). A recurring internal error may indicate a problem with the drive that requires replacement or factory-level service.

Important

Do not attempt to open the inside of the drive motor enclosure. There is a capacitor bank that holds a 230 VAC charge even when there is no power to the unit. Always wait at least 60 seconds after disconnecting power before servicing.
