Pentair IntelliFlo3 VSF Flow Limit Warning
The flow limit warning on the Pentair IntelliFlo3 VSF is a warning — not an alarm. The pump continues running when this warning is active. When a warning is triggered, the drive's ON/STOP LED blinks GREEN/YELLOW.
What the Flow Limit Warning Means
The pump has reported a Flow Limit Warning. The pump is operating at the programmed maximum flow rate. This warning activates when the pump is running a constant-speed (%) program and the resulting flow rate reaches or exceeds the configured Max Flow value in the Limits Parameters.
The flow limit acts as a ceiling: when the pump's estimated flow reaches the Max Flow setting, it will not allow the flow to go higher, even if the speed program would otherwise produce a higher flow.
Default Flow Limit Settings
| Setting | Default |
|---|---|
| Min Flow | 20 GPM |
| Max Flow (1.5 HP Pumps) | 90 GPM |
| Max Flow (3 HP Pumps) | 140 GPM |
| Flow Limit — Speed Programs | Disabled |
Flow Limit for Speed Programs is disabled by default. This means that when running a constant-speed (%) program, the pump will not enforce the flow limit unless you explicitly enable it in Limits Parameters. The flow limit applies automatically to constant-flow (GPM) programs.
Adjusting the Flow Limit
To adjust the Max Flow or enable/disable Flow Limit for Speed Programs, access Limits Parameters via: Pentair Pool app, optional Touchscreen Controller (Device Settings > Limits Parameters), or automation system interface.
If the Warning Appears Unexpectedly on a Speed Program
If you see a flow limit warning on a constant-speed (%) program and did not intend to enable flow limiting, check whether the Flow Limit — Speed Programs setting has been enabled. If it has, and you do not want flow limiting, disable it in Limits Parameters.
If You Want to Cap Flow on Speed Programs
If you want to prevent a high-speed program from exceeding a certain flow rate — for example to protect downstream equipment from over-flowing — enable Flow Limit — Speed Programs and set the Max Flow to the desired ceiling.
Min Flow
The Min Flow setting (default 20 GPM) sets the minimum flow rate the pump will maintain. If the pump is running a constant-flow program and the requested flow is below the Min Flow setting, the pump will run at the minimum flow instead. This prevents the pump from running at an extremely low flow rate that could cause hydraulic or thermal issues.
Warning vs. Alarm
The Flow Limit Warning does not stop the pump. The pump continues to run at the capped flow rate. The warning is informational — it tells you the pump has reached its configured flow ceiling and is not going higher.
